What Little Boys Are Made Of

Remember the little poem about sugar,spice and all things nice?  That is what little girls are made of.  For the most part that is true...but that's another post.  Little boys are supposed to be made of snails, puppy dog tails...something of that sort.  This is a falsehood.  Little boys are made of RUBBER!  I know Joseph must think he's made of rubber, but I'm convinced. To go along with his busted a lip a couple of weeks ago, Joseph now has a nasty black eye. Where did he get it?  At the art museum!  Who gets a black eye at an art museum?! I'm still debating whether or not to post a picture of it.  To complete the ensemble, this morning he fell off the top of the fence and got a bloody nose.  You're all probably thinking one thing by now...Laura is a terrible mother.  I don't know that I'd go so far as terrible, perhaps inexperienced.  The truth is I'm a girl and I don't think like a boy.  I would never have expected Joseph to do any of the things he's done lately b/c girls don't think to do stuff like this.  Maybe Brent should stay home and raise Joseph for the next couple of years and I'll go to school.  Brent probably would've seen all this coming.  

Perhaps our next house should have a privacy fence, but this might only be an invitation for Joseph...a new challenge for him to conquer.

I used to think I wanted a bunch of sons and one daughter.  I am so glad for four daughters and one son.
I am also glad that God watches out for my little boy.  I guess we'll raise him together.

Spring Break

Brent was out for Spring Break last week, so the kids and I took our break too.  It was an eventful week.  We visited Grammy and Pop Pop in north Alabama and went shopping at the outlets.

When we came back we learned that the republican presidential hopefuls would be stopping in Montgomery.   Brent went to see Gingrich with a friend.  He said the secret service men were taking pictures for everyone.  I took Haley, Allie and Emily to see Ann Romney which was interesting.  Brent and I almost made it to see Santorum, but had to watch it online instead.  Brent and I each took one of the big girls with us to vote and we celebrated when our friend won the race for Probate Judge of Elmore County.  Brent did a little to help with the campaign.

We made it to the zoo on Friday and discovered the new Parakeet Cove which was sooo much fun. Everyone ended up holding a parakeet or two or three at some point.  There are 500 birds in the cove.  We also fed the giraffes at the zoo, but I was so excited to get to touch one that I forgot to take pictures.

Not much else is new.   We're back to the daily grind, which is fairly unpredictable when you homeschool, so it's not a negative thing, except that we all miss having Brent home with us.  Brent's law exams are upon us now that the semester is coming to a close, but I'm not dreading it as much as usual.  After the summer and fall semesters we're finished!  Hooray!

 Haley and Allie would hold our their arms like statues and wait for the birds to come to them.  They would have 4 or 5 perched on them at once.

Sunday Best

Here's Emily and Joseph in their church clothes.  Joseph got a shirt, tie and slacks for his birthday.  He loves the tie.  He wore it all day, until he busted his lip falling off the couch and we had to take him to the ER.  No, I'm not kidding.  At nine o'clock last night Brent and I were rushing Joseph to the hospital.  They wouldn't stitch the inside of his lip, but they did x-ray him to make sure nothing was broken.  He was very brave.  I'm pretty sure his new shirt is ruined.

Sarah Kathryn was blessed by her daddy on February 5.  She looked so pretty in her blessing gown made by Grammy.  Nana made the blanket and it is perfectly lovely.  The blessing gown has lace from Grammy's wedding gown and Sarah Kathryn looks like an angel in it.  It was a special day for our family.  We're so excited to have Sarah Kathryn with us.  As small as she is, she brings something new to the family and has her own personality.  Emily sits with her when she's on the floor, Haley and Allie cheer her up when she's crying and Joseph calls her "my baby."  Once again, Brent has been wrapped around another little girl's finger.  We can tell already that Sarah Kathryn is special and we're so glad she's ours.

Happy Birthday Joseph!

Joseph turned 2 on February 28th.  We had lots of fun celebrating his birthday.  We took him to pick out his cake and the only thing he insisted on was blue vanilla frosting.  The girls picked a strawberry cake mix.  Then we took him shopping for new clothes since the warm weather is here. We made his favorite meal...spaghetti.  You can see that he was wearing it on his face.  He loved everyone singing "Happy Birthday" to him and wasn't sure how to blow out the candles.  When he opened the bulldozer Grandma and Papa bought for him, he said, "Oh cool!"  I was surprised that he seemed to understand that everyone was celebrating him.  He was very happy all day.  We love our little man!

Fun Moments

Haley and Allie's play-doh creations were very impressive.

 

Haley wanted to dress Sarah Kathryn.  It wasn't as easy as she anticipated. 

 Allie loves to cuddle the baby.

 While I was busy with some chores, Joseph became fussy but wouldn't lie down for a nap.  Allie turned on a movie for him, wrapped him in a blanket and he fell asleep in her lap.  Too cute!

 We caught this squirrel peeking through our kitchen window.  He was as curious about the children as they were about him.
