Pensacola

In June we took the girls to Pensacola to visit Uncle Tom and Aunt Carlene. We followed Grammy and Pop Pop down and spent the day at the beach. The girls had such a good time and it was a very relaxing day. Thanks to Uncle Tom and Aunt Carlene for their hospitality.

Combine the cool breeze and the constant lapping of the waves on the shore and you know why Emily didn't stand a chance.

This skeleton of a boathouse is the home of a pelican nest that had baby pelicans in it. I kayaked towards it to get a better look.

Haley and Allie were so fearless in the water. I was afraid they wouldn't like the saltwater, but it didn't bother them at all. They really enjoyed the boogie board.

Allie and Grammy.

The girls snorkeled with Uncle Tom and Aunt Carlene's grandsons for hermit crabs and other wildlife. Later in the day we had 3 or 4 school of sting rays swim right through where we were playing. It was a little alarming but really fascinating to see so many up close.

It took a few times to get the snorkeling right, but Haley loved it.

Everyone was really exhausted at the end of the day. This picture was taken about two miles from Uncle Tom and Aunt Carlene's house. I know you can't see her, but Emily was also asleep by then.

To help us get home faster (since we were all so tired) Brent took a wrong turn and added an extra 2 hours to our drive home, but luckily the girls slept and so we had an uninterrupted conversation all the way home. This made the extra time in the car worth it; an unexpected surprise.

Haley

I love this picture of Haley.

Somehow she got the butterfly to perch on her finger and I thought the picture turned out really sweet. She was so excited to get a close look at the butterfly. It stayed perched on her finger for at least 10 minutes.

Grammy the Easter Bunny

Grammy sent this picture of herself to Haley about a week ago. She told the story of how Mamaw had her hair cut when she was young, since Haley just got a similar haircut. While talking with Grammy on Skype Haley commented on Grammy's photo. She said, "Grammy, you look like a bunny rabbit with two BIG teeth in the front!" Grammy laughed.

Haley has recently become a tell-all kid. Grandma and Papa have an insurance agency close to a local church. The church was rotating their toys for their nursery, throwing some toys away. Grandma found a push toy for Emily that was practically new. The stickers were missing so the church was getting rid of it. Grandma cleaned it and brought it over to Emily as a surprise. Haley heard that the church was throwing some of its toys away. While on Skype with Grammy Haley proceeded to tell her that, "Emily got a new toy from the trash and Grandma gave it to her."

Haley is hilarious. WARNING: Be careful what you say in front of her because she will definitely repeat it back to whomever will listen, and even those who will not.

Mountain Camping

Haley and Allie loved climbing this mountain at Clover Springs. It's called Clover Springs because there's a natural spring in these mountains. We hiked over to check it out and it was sooooooo cold. The girls kept trying to get in the spring, but none of us could stand it for very long. It only took me 15 seconds for my fingers to go numb.

I was surprised the girls had such a good time. Unfortunately Emily didn't like it much so we didn't actually spend the night. We went home to sleep in our own beds after roasting hot dogs. We were only 30 minutes from home.

Haley was a little too anxious to have her turn to stick something in the fire. Our little pyro. She does come by it honestly.

Allie was so tuckered by this point that I guess she was too tired to open her gatorade so we caught her in this picture licking the condensation off the lid. That's so sad! Where was that girl's parents?

Allie discovered that sometimes it's easier to get down a mountain on your butt. I don't even want to know how much dirt fell out of her underwear last night when Brent put her in the bathtub.

Check out the back of Allie's head. After Haley got a haircut Allie decided she wanted one too. It makes her look older somehow, but still so adorable!

A Change of Scenery

This is what Brent and I see every time we step out the front door - this is a big change from lush, green Alabama. The mountains are beautiful, but I do think they'd look better with some trees. Brent and I stopped to take these pictures while we were driving yesterday so that everyone at home gets an idea of where we are...THE DESERT!

And in case you're wondering, yes we occasionally see sagebrush rolling along just like in an old western movie.

Atleast it's cooler here. We can't complain about that!
